I'm thinking I probably don't really want to know the answer to this: but why have I been told multiple times from different sources to, at all costs, avoid touching the elevator walls in Stephenson?

In other topics, I got the incoming student Daily Evergreen issue today and it's been really interesting to read over. The high school - college transistion is really odd, as I keep reading things and thinking "OMGYOUCANTSAYTHATINPRINT WHATABOUTTHECHILDREN!" Which seemed to be the reaction of my high schools administration when they happened across words like "condom."

I've got another question: what do you guys think some of the best meals the dining halls have are? I know there's a big love of the McCougar (which I had at Alive. Mmm!) but what are some of the other things you like?

On the Dining Halls...I have a senstive stomach. Any of the pizzas and highly greasy foods made me sick. I know some people really liked the food, but for the most part i didnt. I did like lunches at the CUB though. Get a half mix of the sauces at the stir-fry place and its perfect. I also love the thursday night potato bar at hillside. And try all the cakes. I love the Palouse chocolate raspberry cake.

nasty walls

yeah, i lived in stephenson east my freshman year, and never would i have ever touched the walls in there. the elevators there were normally FULL of trash. i have no idea why people put all their trash in there, but there was so much that it was often really hard to even get into the elevators there. the also smell horrible. i was no witness to anything going on in the elevators there, but from what i hear people like to pee in them, pleasure themselves in them, anything goes. and it all end up on the walls. i am not sure that i would have believed that people would do things like that, except that i have seen those elevators first hand, and they certainly weren't a pretty site.

Re: nasty walls

I've always wondered if the people who make a disgusting mess in grocery/retail stores did the same there where the live. I guess the answer is yes. *shudders*

Those walls are about as clean as a rest stop bathroom floor.

You keep getting told not to touch the walls, mostly because the people who told you not to touch the walls were told not to touch the walls by someone else, and so forth. The walls aren't that bad the majority of the time, but occasionally people piss in the elevators late at night. People are a bit fond of spitting in the elevator as well, but that's usually on the doors and buttons. It's not bad on the weekdays, but can get gross on the weekends. I don't know why everyone freaks out about the walls, when it's the floors that tend to be covered in beer, piss, vomit, pop, ice cream, etc. Sleep tight.

Man, I am glad I am not in Stephenson, But I'll keep that in mind when visiting people or whatever.

Stairs are looking pretty good.

hmm

sure they can be gross on the weekends sometimes, but 13 flights of stairs otherwise? i'd take the gross elevator.

*adding to nosnibor* people who dont touch the walls in elevators, esp stephenson ones are the kind of people who use a papertowl to open bathroom doors, turn on public sinks and who put seat protectors down on public toilets, in essence, germ freaks. which, whatever, is fine if u wanna go through that extra effort, but really, i dont think its that big a deal.

Speaking from the viewpoint of someone who lived there for three years, it's REALLY not as bad as people make it out to be. All dorm elevators get messy during the weekend, not just the ones in stephenson.

Haha. Well, I was/am in Rogers, and I had the displeasure of walking into the elevator late one night in my favorite fuzzy pink slippers and stepping on a dripping wet floor. I thought it was just alcohol or water or something because the two guys in the elevator with me (one of them an R.A....tsk tsk) smelled of booze in the biggest way and one of them had on a really wet t-shirt, so I assumed they had just been stupid or something before it stopped at my floor.

And then when they got off a few floors later, I realized that the walls were also wet, and as I stepped away from the wall wondering why the back of my shirt was wet, one of them yelled back in a very drunken way not to blame him about the urine I was stepping in, but his friend who couldn't "hold it."

Ummm. Needless to say. I tossed my favorite slippers and then showered like crazy.

So, just...like...yeah. Wear shoes. And keep an eye out for unnecessary moisture in the elevators....hahaha...

stephenson walls

funny story about the stephenson elevators:

towards the end of second semester last year, my friends and i stumbled upon a dead squirrel super-glued to the wall of a stephenson north elevator (we have pictures, and i'll do my best to dig them up). about 20 minutes after discovering the squirrel, the elevator was grounded on the basement floor and declared a biohazard (there was yellow tape and everything).

in addition to dead squirrels, its pretty common to find puddles of urine on friday and saturday nights... and the occasional piece of pie smeared across the door(that happened at least 10 times during the school year)

if i were you, i would avoid touching elevator the walls at all costs. in fact, you might as well take the stairs.

Re: stephenson walls

The stairs aren't always safe. More than once the lower half of the stairwell smelled of alcohol vomit because some drunkard thought walking up 8 flights of stairs would make them less sick than taking the elevator.

Re: stephenson walls

yeah, you have a good point. the stairs can be equally as disgusting as the elevators. and the great part is that the stairs are cleaned less frequently.

ugh, its isnt uncommon for those stairs to reek of urine either.

I miss it sometimes still, the food was pretty good, I am all about breakfast. Biscuits and gravy!

Yeah breakfast is really the only good thing they serve at the dining halls.

The clam chowder is pretty damn good, though.

And bessies are good.

Stay away from anything they claim to be steak, unless they are carving it right in front of you, like they sometimes do. When it's carved to order, it's actually pretty darn good.

What are bessies?

They are these crazy toasted sandwiches with turkey, cheese and tomato. Pretty good(I personally pick off the tomato though) and as far as I know from working in 2 dining centers, pretty safe.

Delicious biscuits and gravy!

Seriously, that's what I miss most about having friends in the dorms :(

Don't worry, Streit-Perham elevators were just as nasty. My guy friends openly admitted to pissing in them multiple times. I can only imagine what they didn't admit to...

allthough sometimes the stuff they do in those can be amusing, at least after the fact. At the time it wasn't so amusing to find that the elevator was full of popcorn, newspaper or packing peanuts, but in hindsight it was mildly amusing. I wouldn't want to have to clean it up though. Some of the other stuff, not so amusing though...
